Sonam
Dolma
Sonam Dolma
was born in Kongpo in 1954 and spent her first few years high
up in the Tibetan mountains. In 1960 she fled with her family
to India where she lost her younger sister and her father and
worked in road camps until she could join an English school in
Simla and later in Dehra Dun. When she was 19 she settled in Switzerland
and married a Swiss anthropologist and museum curator. In the
late 1980s Dolma’s interest in modern western art grew and
she attended classes at the Art Academy in Bern. Her paintings
are mainly abstract, illusionary expressions – in accordance
with the Buddhist philosophy that says that every appearance is
empty and illusionary. She has exhibited in several galleries
in Switzerland as well as at the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam, Holland.
