Benchung

Benchung was born in 1971 in Lhasa and was educated at Tibet University, 1986-89; the Department of Graffiti Design, Tianjin Academy of the Arts, China 1989-92; the Central Industrial Arts Institute, Beijing, 1996-97 and Oslo National Academy of the Arts, 2005-07. In 2001 he was given a grant from the Trace Foundation International Exchange Program, New York. His works have been widely exhibited in the USA and also in Germany and Japan. He is concerned with how cultures and people of different backgrounds connect and affect each other and in his work he tries to merge Tibetan traditional culture and art forms with contemporary art.
