Jhamsang

Jhamsang was born in Lhasa in 1971; he is an art teacher and member of the Gedun Choephel Artists’ Guild. He studied various subjects such as biology, Chinese, computing and art. In 1987 he became an apprentice of the thangka master Tenpa Rapten.

His expression of current Tibet is formed through assimilating and juxtaposing traditional techniques with new images as a way of questioning the issues of past and present, tradition and innovation, history and change.
