Losang
Gyatso
Losang Gyatso was born
in Tibet and grew up in Britain. After studying Tibetan painting
in a Tibetan refugee community in India for two years he moved
to the San Francisco in 1974 where he went to art school. After
working in the art industry for 16 years, he now focuses on his
personal artwork and co-founded the Mechak Centre for Contemporary
Tibetan Art.
His work evolves around
Tibetan culture in all its aspects, how he relates to it for identity
and sustenance, having lived outside Tibet for most of his life.
He is inspired by ideas rather than physical subject matter; with
his work he aims to move towards the universal and away from the
particular.
