Conch Trumpet is a high-pitched musical instrument used in offering ritual as part of the rather cacophonous music thought to please fierce deities ; it is also blown to summon monks to prayers.
A conch shell is highly prized in Tibet and, as the symbol of the Sacred World, it is often presented as an auspicious gift to important religious figures. At the same time, it is also often used as a vessel for incense (of which the scent is one of the five Sense Offerings) and for milk (being one of the ‘Five White Offerings) used in a Kalachakra ritual called a ‘Garland of Offerings’.
