Here a rich mix of references are used. The holy Indian cow, the leather of the Indian-made whips, collide with the famous painting of a bucrane by Georgia O'keefe. Initially intended as an ironic comment on the wild west and conquest, the image has in fact become iconic. Here the bull's head is formed from the diagram of woman's reproductive system, the fallopian tubes forming the horns, the uterus - the head. The work makes reference to women's rights, to abortion issues, as women as cattle. The red is blood. Subodh Gupta enters the fray with reference to his work The Way Home, here the artist, working away from India, flips his idea, and presents herself as an outsider, with no way home.
