The New Phnom Penh

Sambo the elephant, was banned from the city where he has walked for years, pushed out by the needs of the traffic, pushed out by the wheel. The ban was later reversed. Phnom Penh is changing; high-rise buildings pop up in the heart of town. Still, many people nostalgically compare life today with the sixties heyday. Modern life can bring a throwaway mentality, but in the quiet of the mosquito net, not much has changed.
