Held in association with Tibet House US the opening is timed to coincide with the city's celebration of Asian art during Asia week. This outstanding collection of jewelry, possibly the finest still in private hands, contains some of the most splendid examples of the Himalayan goldsmiths' craft. The jewelry of the Himalayas has been reserved for the wealthy and powerful for centuries, reflecting social and political status, while expressing deeply ingrained views about what is beautiful. These private adornments for public display made of gold and silverdecorated with images of deities set with turquoise, coral, pearl and lapis lazuli, are not only symbols of status and wealth but also the embodiment of popular religious beliefs, their exquisite craftsmanship manifesting the prestige and authority of those who wear them.

Asian Art in London: 4 - 13 November

This year we celebrate the thirteenth year of Asian Art in London with a select show of Himalayan sculptures and paintings. Spanning more than 1000 years the works of art date from between the 7th - 18th centuries. At the same time, Dirty Jewels, the solo exhibition by the contemporary Indian artist Jaishri Abichandani, will also be on view.

From Kensington to Islington and Mayfair to Pimlico, numerous dealers and auction houses have come together to promote the wealth of Asian Art available, showing the range as well as the richness of quality to be found in London.

Throughout the ten days numerous special shows and events, including exhibitions, talks and symposia as well as a special gala night at the V & A, will be held throughout the metropolis. For a full itinerary please visit www.asianartinlondon.com
