Tradition Transformed: Tibetan Artists Respond

We are delighted to inform you that four artists represented by Rossi & Rossi, Gonkar Gyatso, Kesang Lamdark, Tenzing Rigdol, and Tsherin Sherpa, along with Dedron and Penba Wangdu, with whom we have a close relationship, are included in Tradition Transformed: Tibetan Artists Respond, at the Rubin Museum of Himalayan Art in New York City. This exhibition is not only the first major show of Tibetan contemporary artists ever held in New York, but is amongst the most exhaustive on Tibetan art to have taken place anywhere. It is a milestone in the history of Tibetan contemporary art.

Tradition Transformed contrasts the work of today's Tibetan artist with the rich artistic tradition of their homeland, laying bare the complex milieu of circumstances they work within. Born in the spiritual and artistic practices of Buddhism, these artists find themselves living as expatriates or unlikely rebels at home, reconciling this storied tradition with the fast-paced and oftentimes bewildering mores of contemporary art history.
