Palden Weinreb was born in 1982 in New York, where he currently lives and works. Weinreb’s practice follows his search for elusive transcendental phenomena surrounding modern life which approaches a conceptual or spiritual existence, including the afterlife. Borrowing from Tibetan Buddhism, New Age theory, utopian modernism and science, the artist mines overlapping and collective ideas and forms that materialise in his work.
Weinreb has participated in numerous institutional exhibitions in the United States, including at the Queens Museum of Art, New York; the Fleming Museum at the University of Vermont; the Rubin Museum of Art, New York; the Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art, New York; Asia Society, Houston; and in the landmark exhibition Phantoms of Asia: Contemporary Awakens the Past, at the Asian Art Museum, San Francisco (2012). The artist’s work was featured in Scorching Sun of Tibet at the Songzhuang Art Center, Beijing (2010), the first institutional exhibition of Tibetan art in China. His first solo exhibition in Europe—This World is Flat, held at Rossi & Rossi London in 2010—was followed by Veiled Realms in 2015. In 2011 he participated in Generation Exile, a joint show with Kesang Lamdark at Hanart Square, Hong Kong.
